Final Update from Abby Kirkham Iverson with Cru/Lifelines

the abby update

Farewell to Lifelines, September 2018

Faithful partners in ministry,

Today is my last day with Cru/Lifelines, what a bittersweet thing. I have so much gratitude for my Lifelines family and for you partners who have made the last few years possible with your prayers and giving! This final update is one big celebration of what God has done through us all in Asheville and a look forward to what we have hope He will do through Thrive! Enjoy the last few stories from Lifelines and some info about the move to Thrive.               - abby
Last Lifelines Trip
Labor Day weekend we had our last Lifelines trip with some amazing international students from UNC Charlotte and it was a blast! As the students introduced themselves, we quickly learned that of the 13 of them, many had just arrived in the States for their graduate programs THREE weeks previous. In their words, this "is the first thing (they are) really doing in America!" Wow. That set the stage for a great weekend of firsts for many of them.
Right off the bat we had them experiencing new things! They set up tents for the first time, made dinner on a camp stove, and tried their hand at some slack lining. After dinner we ran a program that pushed them to communicate and lean on one another for support (literally) to solve the task at hand! The discussion afterward led to a student asking "What do I do when I have a problem that I can't talk to my family or friends about?" That question led into spiritual conversations that kept popping up the whole weekend! Praise God for his leading of these students in their time in Asheville.
After teaching some excited students how to make S'mores for the first time (!!!), we all enjoyed the campfire for some guitar playing/singing! And some flashlight selfies of course!
Before sending them home on Monday morning, we spent some time out on the French Broad River to do some white water rafting! As this was my first official guiding of the whole section, I was both extremely nervous and excited! My boat of students were having the time of their lives and bonded quickly with their new friends in the boat. They even loved that we frequently went through rapids backwards! Discussion after rafting revolved around the need for community and people in our lives we can look to as guides, much like the guides on the river. Likewise, we discussed our need for listening to truth and focusing on it's instruction. Peter and I continue to pray alongside the leaders at UNCC that these students will continue to come to gatherings with Bridges in Charlotte and hear the Good News of Jesus shared!

Thrive Adventures

As you read in the last Abby Update, I am joining some other dear friends in a new ministry called Thrive Adventures. Though a new ministry involves a lot of change, some things will stay the same! I will still be working with Peter Ivey, we will still remain in Asheville, and we will continue using the outdoors for people to experience Gospel change in their lives! We are especially excited about the opportunity to expand our vision to really pursuing those in leadership. We desire to give leaders experiences in grace and truth environments that they could then take back to their circles of influence. We hope to see relationships grow to be more reflective of Jesus!

Thrive Adventures exists currently in Acadia, Maine and Asheville, NC. We hope to continue growing in the future and exist in other locations beneficial for outdoor ministry. We have partnered with Global Service Network as our sending company and are tecnically contracted workers through GSN.

Ending Giving with Cru

Again, I want to thank all of you who have been supporters through prayer and financial giving. We couldn't have done it without you. I am so thankful and humbled to have so many of you already agree to continue your support with Thrive Adventures! If you haven't already, please make sure that you cancel your reoccurring gift to Cru in September, as soon as possible. Below are the instructions on how to do so along with how to begin your gift to Thrive Adventures. In order to help us make this transition, I will be receiving two month's severance equal to the amount of my monthly salary. My Cru account will be able to receive contributions until November 1 after which all contributions will go to Cru's general fund.

1) Either a) Log on to your Cru giving account and cancel your reoccurring gift or b) Call 1-888-CRUSADE, option1 and tell them that you'd like to cancel your reoccurring gift.
2) Visit my new Global Service Network giving page, and sign up for a reoccurring monthly gift beginning in September. You can do this by either ERT (account transfer) or debit/credit card. With GSN, there is a 7% administrative fee applied to every donation. There is an additional 3% fee for all debit/credit card/check* gifts, so signing up for a reoccurring ERT will save 3% on every monthly donation.

* If you'd rather pay by check, you can make your check payable to Global Service Network with a post-it note indicating my name and account number (50618002) as the recipient. Please include your name, current mailing address, phone number and email address. Mail your check to the following address.

Global Service Network

Apex, NC 27502

Looking ahead

Many of you have asked about future ministry updates so I wanted to let you know that I will continue to use the same email list to send out Thrive Updates. If at any time you choose to no longer receive these email updates, please feel free to unsubscribe through the link at the bottom! I look forward to updating you all as I get started with Thrive!

Prayers & Praises
1. Praise the Lord with me for all that He has done through this Lifelines team in Asheville. And for the work He has done in me through the loving Lifelines family across the US!
2. Please pray for my transition from Lifelines to Thrive, particularly with the transfer of support. There can be a lot of anxiety with changing due to fear of support loss, but Mark and I know God is above it all and has provided for our lives thus far, we have no reason to fear.
3. Pray for Thrive as we move forward with forming the ministry and developing our resources for equipping leaders for Gospel change!
Partners in prayer and support, I'm incredibly grateful for you! Please let me know how I can be praying for you or celebrating in life with you! Never hesitate to reach out and know that I care for you deeply. Your part of this ministry is so clear to me!
